On 21st September 2011 Valerie spoke at a Female Genital Mutilation National Clinical Group conference in Birmingham, and called for politicians, professionals and communities to work in partnership to bring an end to the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM).

Valerie met the Walsall Harmonic Male Voice Choir. The choir was formed in 1970 from the membership of the Walsall Harmonic and Social Society, which was founded in 1897. They meet every Monday evening at The Chuckery Club, 44 Beacon Street, Walsall. The Choir’s membership is around 20 singers, and they are directed by Bryan Jeffreys, a founder-member.

Health Committee publishes reports into Monitor and the Care Quality Commission

On 14th September 2011 the House of Commons Health Select Committee, of which Valerie is a member, published reports into the healthcare regulators Monitor – responsible for the approval and regulation of Foundation Trusts – and the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which is responsible for inspection of NHS and social care providers.

Valerie Visits Chamberlin and Hill and Nominates their Turbocharger Castings for “Made by Britain”

On Saturday 10th September, Valerie visited Chuckery-based casting manufacturer Chamberlin and Hill and nominated their turbocharger castings to represent Walsall South in the Made by Britain scheme.
