No CommentsOn Saturday 19 November 2011, Valerie Vaz MP hosted the Noor Inayat Khan Memorial Fundraising Dinner in the House of Commons, to celebrate the life of Noor Inayat Khan GC of the Special Operations Executive. Guest of Honour was the Rt Hon John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons. Also present, the High Commissioners of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Valerie Attends Remembrance Events at Walsall and Darlaston Cenotaphs

On Sunday 13th November 2011, Valerie attended the Remberance Sunday events at the Cenotaphs in Walsall Town Centre and in Darlaston. Valerie took part in the services and laid wreaths in memory of the fallen.

Valerie Vaz, MP for Walsall South and member of the House of Commons Health Select Committee, yesterday criticised the Government’s inclusion of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), the Human Tissue Authority (HTA), and the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) in the Public Bodies Bill.

Valerie hosts launch for Aung San Suu Kyi biography

On Thursday 3 November, in the Jubillee Room , House of Commons, Valerie hosted the launch of the new biography of Burmese pro-democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, ‘The Lady and the Peacock’ by Peter Popham. The event was attended by relatives of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, her sister in law, Lucinda Phillips, sister of her husband Michael Aris, Marie – Laure Aris the wife of Michael’s twin brother representatives of Burma Campaign UK and Christian Solidarity Worldwide and Members of the UK Parliament as well as the author and publishers.
