No CommentsI was delighted to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the NHS by holding a street stall in Bloxwich Market on Saturday 7 July 2018. It was the courage of Nye Bevan and the determination of a Labour Government that saw the birth of the NHS, which has completely transformed social justice in this country.

A General debate was scheduled on 5 July 2018 on the Principle of proxy voting in the House of Commons. The Government withdrew the debate at the last minute.

I called for a debate on the Public Accounts Committee report which states that Government funding reductions, totalling nearly 50%, have placed local authorities under real strain. Funding cuts have reduced public services such as libraries, waste collection and bus services. Our high streets are dying. Marks & Spencer and Poundworld are leaving Walsall town centre.

I met with Nin Matharu, Headteacher of King’s Hill Primary School, and Mike Fox, Chair of Governors, in Parliament on Wednesday 4 July 2018. Nin Matharu won the Pearson Teaching silver award for her incredible work at King’s Hill Primary School.

On 29 June 2018 I attended Kings Hill Primary School where students had a debate to celebrate ‘EqualiTeas’ marking 90 years since the Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act became law.
