I responded to a Business Statement on Thursday 24 October 2019 by the Leader of the House announcing a change of business on Monday 28 October to allow a debate on a motion relating to an early parliamentary general election.

The UK is the second largest legal services market in the world and the largest legal services sector in the EU. It contributes £27.9 billion to the UK economy and £4.4 billion in net exports. It relies, in part, on uniform market access the EU and the European economic area. What are the Government doing to protect this vital sector?

Following the Government’s defeat on Saturday 19 October 2019, the Leader of the House made a Business Statement on Monday 21 October 2019. Below is my response in full:

Parliament sat on Saturday 19 October 2019 to vote on a motion to approve the Government’s Brexit deal. This was the first time Parliament sat on a Saturday since the Falklands conflict.
