Walsall Fibro and ME held a fundraising day organised by Denise Deacey and her daughter Ella at the community room in Hanover Court, Bentley, on Saturday 10 August 2019. There were delicious home baked cakes, fun games such as tombola, guessing how many sweets are in a jar, a raffle and handmade cards and bags for sale. A total of £245 was raised on the day. Congratulations to members of the Walsall support group and everyone who helped with the stalls, and especially Ella whose idea it was in the first place.

“It is disappointing that Walsall MBC have failed to provide an adequate increase in funding to address the breakdown in local social care. The Joint CQC/Ofsted report on 27 March 2019 made it clear that action is required to address “significant areas of weakness in the local area’s practice”. Local services need financial support from the Council to meet the needs of the community.

VALERIE VAZ SEEKS CLARIFICATION ON THE POSTPONEMENT OF THE SPRINT BUS NETWORK AND CALLS FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO EXISTING ROUTES

“The postponement of the Sprint Bus Route to Walsall is a welcome first step in stopping this unnecessary project. The proposed route would have made the roads less safe for cyclists and pedestrians, undermined local businesses and caused significant disruption in the town centre. The Sprint scheme is a gross misuse of public funds which should be spent on improving existing bus services. There is now uncertainty in what investment TFWM will now be making in transport to and from Walsall. I will be meeting with TFWM to seek clarity and to call for tangible improvements.”

The Philip Augar review suggested that tuition fees should be reduced from £9,250 to £7,000. However, the Government announced in a written statement that the maximum tuition fee will remain at £9,250 for the 2020-21 academic year. Some parents can afford to pay the tuition fees up front. This really is a tale of two Britains.
