Valerie responds to Motion on Proceedings During the Pandemic

On Wednesday 2 September 2020 the Government tabled a motion which extended virtual parliamentary proceedings until 3 November 2020. As Shadow Leader of the House, I have been calling on the Government to extend virtual proceedings to continue to allow MPs who are unable to attend Parliament for health reasons to participate remotely. I welcomed the decision to extend virtual proceedings as a necessary way of enabling Parliament to work safely during the pandemic. Responding to the motion, I said:

The Trade Bill – Amendments and Third Reading

Parliament voted on the Third Reading of the Trade Bill. This Bill provides the legal framework for our post-Brexit UK trade policy, but fails to protect the NHS from being sold off in a US-UK trade deal and it does not provide for proper Parliamentary oversight of any future trade deals. I have been contacted by many of my constituents who are concerned about the Trade Bill and the impact it could have on our NHS, food safety and environmental standards.
