Valerie Vaz MP, Walsall South, has secured a signed Liverpool FC shirt from former club captain and manager Kenny Dalglish to be auctioned in support of efforts to ensure Darlaston Town Football Club maintains its survival.
Valerie said:
“I am delighted to have received the Liverpool FC shirt that Kenny Dalglish has signed following my request and the kind efforts of my colleague Steve Rotherham MP for Liverpool Walton. Kenny sent a note wishing Darlaston FC well. A programme for the Marina Dalglish Appeal Grand Ball 2014 will also be up for auction signed by Kenny and former Liverpool FC defenders Jamie Carragher and Alan Hansen. It is wonderful that Kenny Dalglish has taken a personal interest in the campaign to save Darlaston Town FC; I understand that hearing of the Club’s current situation, he looked up the history of the Club.”
“I am grateful to Steve Rotherham MP, for organising the signatures. I hope that the signed shirt and programme will raise a good sum when they are auctioned at the Sportsman’s Evening which will be held at Darlaston Town Hall on Friday 4 April 2014.”
“I have also written this week to Mr Greg Dyke, Chairman of the Football Association, to ask whether the FA is able to donate a signed England shirt and tickets for school children to tour the England training facility at St George’s Park that can also be auctioned in aid of Darlaston Town FC.”
“Darlaston Town FC is an important part of Darlaston’s local identity and has the potential to make a great contribution to the community. I am very encouraged by the success of the fundraising efforts in support of the Club, which have already raised more than £5,000. This is as a result of the tireless efforts of the club Chairman Neil Chambers.”
