On Tuesday 14 October, Valerie supported Barbara Keeley MP’s 10 Minute Rule Bill on Carers Bedroom Entitlement (Social Housing Sector).
The Motion was:
“That leave be given to bring in a Bill to provide that people in receipt of Universal Credit and Housing Benefit and accommodated in the social housing sector be entitled to an additional bedroom related to caring responsibilities or overnight care; and for connected purposes.”
Valerie said:
“This Bill would exempt households with one additional room from the Bedroom Tax if a member of the household was entitled to carers allowance.I have opposed the Bedroom Tax at every opportunity in Parliament, calling for an urgent debate and for it to be abolished. I am pleased the motion was passed with 204 votes to 8.”
