On Tuesday 17 March 2015 Valerie raised Access to Justice following cuts to Legal Aid.
Valerie asked:
“Access to Justice is one of the corner stones of our democracy. Given the reductions in Legal Aid, could the minster say if there has been a rise or fall in the number of Litigants in Person.”
The Minister for the Courts and Legal Aid said:
“I believe there has been a rise for Litigants in Person. But the Government has made a huge amount of provision to cater for that. What I will also say to the Hon. Lady is that we need a Legal Aid system that is sustainable. Sustainable for the people who need it, sustainable for the league of providers and sustainable for the taxpayers who pay for it.”
