I was delighted to attend the opening of the new Parliament Education Centre by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 15 July 2015 and was the set up at the instigation of Mr Speaker the Rt Hon John Bercow MP.
The new Education Centre will double the number of school children able to visit Parliament each year. The Centre combines state-of-the-art technology with an environmentally sustainable building to offer schools a new world class facility in which to learn about Parliament, democracy and politics.
In the last seven years the Parliamentary Education Service has enabled 300,000 visitors to come to Parliament, from over 4000 schools including many from Walsall South. The new Education Centre will allow one million school children to visit Parliament over the next decade. The Centre is situated near the House of Lords end of the Parliamentary Estate.
The schools from Walsall South who have visited find this brings Parliament to life and I am always pleased to see the children and young people for a Q and A at the end of their intense day with the Education Service. I hope to see many more schools in Walsall South in the Education Centre.
