On Tuesday 27 October I tabled the EDM (Early Day Motion) 605 on the settlement of the dispute at the National Gallery which called on the Government to ensure that the reputation of this great cultural institution face no further threat.
The full text of the EDM:
That this House welcomes the settlement of the dispute at the National Gallery; thanks the new director Gabriele Finaldi and the contractor Securitas for their commitment to genuine negotiations; pays tribute to the dedication which the visitor and security services staff have shown to the Gallery, their daily work and in seeking to defend their services from privatisation; notes that staff are now being paid the London Living Wage; further notes that the victimised Public and Commercial Services Union representative Candy Udwin has been reinstated; regrets that an agreement could not have been reached without over 100 days of strike action; and calls on the Government to ensure that the reputation of this great cultural institution and the terms and conditions of its workforce face no further threat.
