Valerie supports Anglesey Day in Parliament

On Tuesday 19 April 2016, I  attended the Anglesey Day event in Parliament where I met small businesses including food and drink producers based in Anglesey to discuss issues they are currently facing.

I was delighted to meet Rhian Williams of Plas Farm, The Frozen Yogurt People. Rhian’s  Father, David Williams, established Plas Farm in 1986, as a diversification of his dairy farm in Llanfaelog, North Wales, in response to the imposition of dairy quota regulations in 1984. Plas Farm has ceome Europe’s leading frozen yogurt manufacturer. Surprisingly, in the last five years, Plas farm has gone from manufacturing no retail frozen yogurt, to an estimated £5 million in consumer sales annually. I am sure Plas Farm will continue to grow. I spoke with a representative of the Food Technology Centre (FTC). The FTC was established in 1999 and works with food businesses in order to assist them in gaining a competitive advantage. The FTC aims to develop Wales and the UK’s reputation for producing and manufacturing innovative food and drink that is of the highest quality.

I also spoke with Anthony Tavernor of Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens. The Hidden Gardens have undergone a spectacular transformation since 1996 and are being restored to their former glory. Plas Cadant offers the opportunity to learn about history dating back to the Iron Age. Anthony told me he had a connection with Darlaston where a friend Harmar Nicholls was a councillor and chairman of Darlaston Council, who was also the MP for Peterborough.
