At the New Art Gallery on Saturday 30 April 2016 there was a celebration of Vaisakhi through an exhibition of Langar. Langar is a term used in the Sikh religion for the common kitchen/canteen where free food is served in a Gurdwara to all the visitors. The exhibition demonstrated the Sikh importance around the equality and sharing of food. It was organised by Surgit Rai.
In the foyer there were singers, Bhangra dancers, spiritual Sikh martial arts performances, family creativity workshops and henna painting.
It was good to see residents of Walsall from all backgrounds learn about different cultures and discuss the importance of equality in society as well as listen to maestro tabla player Pritpal Singh Rai take centre stage to give a live demo with his pupils.
