I was delighted to speak at the Unity in the Community Rally on Saturday 1 July 2017. We came together in solidarity at The Crossing at St Paul’s, sending a powerful message to the English Defence League (EDL) protesters who seek to divide us by hatred.
I saw at first hand the EDL walk past the New Art Gallery which is a symbol of the diversity in Walsall.
I would like to thank the police who work hard to keep us safe, and the public sector workers who play a vital role in the community.
It is important for us all to come together to show the sense of solidarity that exists amongst all communities. If one community is attacked, we are all attacked. We must remain strong against hate, racism, and all forms of division. Walsall is and will always be a diverse and inclusive society, that doesn’t just tolerate difference, but celebrates it.
