I was delighted to celebrate the NHS outside Walsall Manor Hospital on Saturday 7 July 2018 along with Andy Brown, Chair of the Disability Advisory Group Walsall Manor.
I am alarmed by the recent announcement of Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s deficit. NHS Trusts, generally, are almost £1 billion in deficit.
The Government has no plan to tackle the financial crisis facing the NHS. The Government has failed to invest over 8 years, and refuses to accept that the Health and Social Care Act and reorganisation has added to the pressure on the NHS by costing £3 billion. The Sustainability and Transformation plans have put hospital units across the country at risk, while beds are cut, staff numbers reduced and treatments rationed to save money.
We should expect better for our health service on its 70th anniversary.
