Valerie said:
“I am delighted that Walsall Borough Council has listened to local residents and has removed the bus lane.”
“Resident Philip Antill came to my surgery on 12th June 2010 to explain that the bus lane had been causing problems for local residents. He told me that the parking restrictions associated with the bus lane had created difficulties for residents with more than one car or who had visitors staying. He also told me that changes made to the double roundabout at the junction with Broadway and Broadway North had reduced visibility for drivers.”
“Residents of Birmingham Road presented a 163 name petition to the Council in 2008 calling for the bus lane to be removed.”
“After meeting with Mr Antill, I wrote to Walsall Borough Council to set out the difficulties experienced by residents. I also raised the issue of the length of bus lanes with Transport Minister Norman Baker MP in a Parliamentary Written Question on 8th July 2010.”
“On 14th January 2011, I met with residents and Council officers on Birmingham Road to see the bus lane and discuss how the situation could be resolved. Since that meeting, I have made representations to the Council on a number of occasions. The works to remove the bus lane were finally undertaken on the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd October.”
“This shows what can happen when people work together for the good of the community.”
