I have written to the Foreign Secretary to ask what criteria was used to determine Pakistan’s “red list” status and the timeframe when this will be reviewed. You can read my letter below:
“Dear Foreign Secretary
Re: Pakistan travel advice
A number of my constituents have contacted me about Pakistan’s continued status as a “red list” country.
According to data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, Pakistan’s rate of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 residents over the past 14 days is 21.72 whilst neighbouring India has a case rate of 39.98 but has been given “amber status” from 8 August 2021.
Several of my constituents are currently stranded in Pakistan and have been prevented from returning home by flight cancellations and the unaffordable cost of quarantine on arrival. Pakistan has remained on the highest list of travel restrictions since April 2021.
I would be grateful if you could set out the criteria that was used to determine Pakistan’s “red list” status and the timeframe when this will be reviewed.”
