Valerie supports Campaign to End Violence against Women

White Ribbon Day,  25 November 2021 is a campaign calling for an end to male-inflicted violence against women and girls (VAWG). White Ribbon Day is followed by 16 days of action and activism to counter gender-based violence. This year’s leading message is #AllMenCan. Men can sign a White Ribbon pledge to not only show their commitment to ending VAWG, but also to not remain silent on the issue. 

25 November marks the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Since 1981 the day has been promoted to raise awareness of the many forms of violence women are subjected to. The Labour Party published a Green Paper on how to end the epidemic of violence upon women and girls. The Green Paper calls for enhanced sentencing to tackle domestic violence, rape and assault. Under the Conservative Government, rape convictions have fallen to a record low. But the Green Paper states that we cannot rely on the criminal justice system alone: Everyone needs to combat widespread misogyny in our society together by education and discussion.
