Valerie said: “I am delighted that the return of Sunday openings has boosted the New Art Gallery’s visitor numbers by 1,400 in a month and that the Gallery expects this figure to reach 20,000 in a year.”
” This is exactly what I and the people of Walsall wanted. The Gallery should not have been closed on Sunday. When the decision was taken in April 2011 to close the Gallery on Sundays – the only day that many families can visit – I immediately launched a campaign for it to be re-opened. I made several representations to Walsall MBC, collected an online e-petition and raised the matter with Culture Minister, Ed Vaizey MP.”
“It is wonderful to see that local people are once again taking advantage of a unique collection of Art, including the new Damien Hirst Exhibition, on a day that the whole family can enjoy.”
