Valerie has written to the Chairman of the Football Association Greg Dyke asking what assistance can be provided to re-establish Darlaston Town Football Club after it was closed at the start of the 2013/14 season.
Valerie said:
“Darlaston Town FC has been an important part of the community in Darlaston for well over a century, having been founded in 1874. It is a vital community asset and is central to the local identity of Darlaston. I welcome the decision by supporters to re-register the Club with the Birmingham FA and to look to raise £5,000 so that the Club can compete again next year.”
“I have written to the Chairman of the Football Association, Greg Dyke, asking him for a meeting to discuss the situation. I support Mr Dyke’s recent comments about the importance of ensuring that home-grown players reach the highest levels of the game. In my view, grass-roots clubs can play a crucial role in achieving this aim and it is vital the FA offers appropriate support”.
“I hope that the Club can now be re-established and go on to achieve great success in the Future.”
