On Wednesday 6 November 2013, Valerie Vaz MP saw a model of the Bloodhound Supersonic Car at an event sponsored by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in Westminster.
Valerie said:
“This project is vital to get young people interested in engineering, science and technology. We need to do more to raise awareness of these important professions and inspire people to pursue a career in engineering.”
” More young women need to be encouraged to enter into engineering professions. The UK has the lowest proportion of female engineers of any country in the EU, as demonstrated in the graph below.”
“The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is one of the key sponsors of Bloodhound SuperSonic Car, which aims to break the world land speed record. The car will be driven by the current record holder, Andy Green, across the South African Desert.”
