On 14th December 2010 the cross-party Commons Health Select Committee, of which Valerie Vaz MP is a member, published a report into Public Expenditure.
The report addresses the implications of the Spending Review for health and social care services. It raises concerns that the £15-£20bn ‘efficiency gains’ being asked for are unprecedented, especially as the Government has not yet provided an up-to-date figure for the costs of the proposed reorganisation. The report also warns that inflation could mean that the Government will fail to keep its promises about real-terms increases in NHS funding.
Valerie Vaz MP said: “Our role on the Committee is to scrutinize the Government’s proposals. We have considered a wide range of evidence, and it is clear that the Government needs to urgently address a number of issues before implementing these drastic and costly changes to the way our National Health Service works.”
More information on the report can be found at the Health Committee website.
