Bescot Station Disabled Access

I met with Ray Dale, Secretary, Bob Thomas Vice Chair, and Helen Thorpe -Wood,  Disabled Supporters Officer of the Walsall FC Supporters Trust  and members of the Football Supporters Association. We discussed an ongoing issue that in  recent months that there is no disabled access for passengers alighting North Bound at Bescot Stadium Station.

A supporter from a South of England team arrived in a wheelchair at the station and encountered the problem. The Supporters Trust have been in touch with TfWM  regarding this issue.

The fans  are anxious to keep the momentum going on this issue which has been raised with the  Fans for Diversity Manager and Walsall FC are very supportive. The Chairman  Leigh Pomlett also attended the meeting at Bescot Stadium. The  members of the Trust pointed out that Perry Barr Station was refurbished ready for the Commonwealth Games and there are  similar plans for Witton Station further down the Walsall to New Street line.

This is clearly unacceptable and I will raise this with the Minster. Supporters wherever they are should not have to travel all the way into the Town Centre and access alternative routes. Most disconcerting was the fact that there is a disabled access spaces to park but no person with disability can access the trains and the station at Bescot.
