Three Crowns Pub Planning Concerns

No CommentsFollowing concerns raised by local residents of Sutton Road and Skip Lane about a planning application for the Three Crowns Pub site, Valerie has taken up the issue with Walsall Council. Valerie and the local residents are very concerned that the Council is minded to grant planning permission for the demolition of the existing building and the erection of large detatched houses. The application also extends the site into surrounding green belt land. Planning Officers and the Environmental Impact reports have all recommended that the application is refused. Despite this local councillors have spoken in favour of the application. Valerie has brought it to the Council’s attention that there is a presumption against building on green belt land. The national and local planning policy guidance states that development of green belt land should not be approved except in very special circumstances.

Valerie visited Chamberlin and Hill’s local foundry in Chuckery on the 11th September during their annual open day. Dave Morgan and Gordon Stanley showed her round the foundry, explaining the production process and introducing her to members of staff as they worked. In fact, Gordon had only recently retired after a lifetime’s service in the company, and his connection with the firm is even older as his mother, father and uncles all worked for Chamberlin and Hill. Valerie was very encouraged by the positive news she heard from the Directors that the company’s order book was increasing despite the recession. Also, that the company had invested heavily in reducing the environmental impact of the foundry and facilitated an education programme for employees.
