At Health Questions on Tuesday 14 June 2022 I raised the leadership arrangements at Walsall Manor Hospital, which continues to have a joint Chair and a now permanent “Group CEO” with Wolverhampton NHS Trust. I asked the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care:

Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Bill, Report Stage and Third Reading

The Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Bill proposes legislative changes concerning freedom of speech at universities and higher education providers, and in Students’ Unions. These include allowing individuals to bring legal proceedings against a provider or Students’ Union if they are deemed to be failing to protect freedom of speech or academic freedom, and setting up a new complaints system with the Office for Students. The Bill had its Report Stage and Third Reading on Monday 13 June 2022.

Westminster Hall Debate on Battery Storage

A Planning Application is under consideration by Walsall Council for a “Battery Energy Storage System” next to the Duckery at Chapel Lane on Green Belt . If the Application is granted 28 battery units, each 2.3m tall, would be built on land that is agricultural land and has been used to grow Rape Seed. This is in addition to the threat of over 5000 houses being built on the Walsall Green Belt as part of the Draft Black Country Plan.
