From 27 June to 1 July 2022 Delves Junior, Infant and Nursery Schools have hosted a Commonwealth Games Celebration Week ahead of the upcoming Games, led by Mr Headley. On Friday 1 July 2022 I closed the wonderful programme of activities at the Closing Ceremony.
The children were very excited about the Games. Through the week there has been crafting activities including making flags to decorate the playground, and designing a Baton which was taken around the local area.
Pupils had the opportunity to meet Ebony Drysdale-Daley who has competed for Great Britain in Judo, and take part in different sports, including sessions with Walsall Football Club. Each class were assigned a Commonwealth country to learn more about.
At the closing ceremony certificates were awarded for good sporting conduct and those of us on the top table held up the letters of the word “Respect”. All of the pupils gathered in the playground sung a school song put together especially for the occasion.
On BBC Politics Midlands on 3 July I spoke about how much the children were looking forward to the Games having learnt so much during their Celebration Week.
