On Friday 4 April 2014, Valerie Vaz MP, Walsall South, attended the auction in aid of Darlaston Town FC including a Liverpool FC shirt signed by Kenny Dalglish as well as other memorabilia she obtained and a Tea for Two at the House of Commons.
Valerie Vaz MP said:
“The auction was a wonderful success raising a total amount of more than £2000 which will put the Club in an excellent position to secure its long term future. I am delighted that the Liverpool FC shirt signed by Kenny Dalglish raised £120. The programme for the Marina Dalglish Appeal Grand Ball 2014 signed by Kenny and former Liverpool FC defenders Jamie Carragher and Alan Hansen raised £40. It is great that Kenny Dalglish has taken a personal interest in the campaign to save Darlaston Town FC.”
“I donated a Tea for Two at the House of Commons which I am pleased raised £140. Following a meeting I held with the FA regarding the future of the Club, the FA donated an England shirt that raised a further £80. Between lots, Don Goodman, the former Wolves, West Bromwich Albion and Walsall FC striker spoke engagingly about his career.”
“The Club’s Chairman, Neil Chambers has said there will be public meeting on Wednesday 16 April 2014 at 7.30pm to let people know full details of its progress so far and to announce its intentions for the future. The success of the auction and the number of people who attended reflects the leadership, hard work and enthusiasm shown by the Club’s Chairman Neil Chambers and the great contribution made by local businesses and the local community.”
