Energy Prices Bill, Second Reading

The Energy Prices Bill puts into legislation the mechanisms behind the energy price guarantee. The Bill had its Second Reading in the House on Monday 17 October 2022.

New Clause 3 would require the Secretary of State to produce a report that assesses the impact of reducing investment allowance for oil and gas companies from 80% to 5%. I voted to support this New Clause, which was not passed, Ayes: 227 and Noes: 302.

Amendment 2 would have allowed the domestic electricity price reduction scheme to begin from 8 September 2022. I voted to support this New Clause, which was not passed, Ayes: 229 and Noes: 303.

The next stage for the bill is its First reading in the House of Lords.
