Football Gender Equality Reception

Equal Playing Field challenge gender inequality in sport and promote sports development for girls and women around the world, implementing grassroots training and empowerment programmes. EPF held a reception on 4 July 2022 to celebrate recent achievements in women’s sport and champion equality.

Chair of the Fan Led Review into Football Governance Tracey Crouch MP spoke at the reception, straight after leading the UK Women’s Parliamentary Football Club to victory. I have tabled a Written Parliamentary Question to ask when the Government will bring forwards its proposals responding to the Review.

On 4 July I met with the Co-Chair and CEO of Walsall FC, Leigh Pomlett and Stefan Gamble, to discuss the Fan-Led Review. The Government have accepted the Review’s findings but have not set a firm timetable to legislate. I tabled a Written Parliamentary Question: “To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, when the Government will publish its proposals in response to the Fan-Led review of Football Governance.” The Minister said that a White Paper would be published in Summer 2022.

England is set for a brilliant summer of football with the Euros 2022 getting underway at Old Trafford on Wednesday 6 July 2022. Congratulations to the Lionesses on their 1-0 win, and I wish them the best of luck for the tournament.
