On 1st February 2011 the House of Commons Health Select Committee, of which Valerie is a member, published its report into Revalidation of Doctors.
The report calls for the General Medical Council to be directly accountable to Parliament, by inviting the GMC to give oral evidence on its annual report each year.
Valerie said: “It is important to improve the ways in which we monitor the performance of doctors at an individual and a practice level. Making the GMC more accountable to Parliament will make it easier for cases to be dealt with in a timely manner and for the interests of patients to be promoted.”
