Valerie was voted onto the House of Commons Governance Select Committee. The Committee was set up after the Speaker’s announcement to pause the process of appointing a new Clerk of the House and Chief Executive, following the retirement of the former Clerk Sir Robert Rogers in July 2014.
On Tuesday 28 October 2014 during Foreign and Commonwealth Office questions Valerie raised the killing of the journalist Aung Naing in Burma.
On Monday 27 October 2014 Valerie and representatives of the Khalsa Football Federation (KFF) met with the Minister for Sport, Helen Grant MP to discuss the support available to increase participation in grassroots football and other sports.
On Sunday 26 October 2014 Valerie was a guest on the BBC Sunday Politics West Midlands Show. Topics for discussion included EU reform, the Common Agricultural Policy and local councils.
On Tuesday 21 October 2014 at Health Questions, Valerie raised the issue of Locum GPs.
On Friday 17 October 2014 Valerie visited the Walsall Afro-Caribbean Community Centre on Wolverhampton Road for a 'meet and greet' with members.

Valerie has joined with shop workers as part of the Freedom From Fear Campaign, which seeks to prevent violence, threats and abuse that is directed at retail staff. Valerie has pledge to support a protection of workers bill that would introduce a specific offence of assaulting a worker serving the public.
