On Saturday 20 October 2012, Valerie visited the Acorns Children’s Hospice and met with the Chief Executive David Strudley and Head of Care, Anne Small.
Valerie has welcomed the announcement by Walsall MBC that on-street parking charges are to be ended on Ablewell Street and 5 other town centre streets. The move follows an 18 month long campaign by Valerie and local traders to have the charges removed.
On Thursday 18 October 2012, at Women and Equalities Questions, Valerie asked the Minister if she will look at the Australian model which the Federal Department use to increase women's participation. The Australian model is 40% men, 40% women and 20% of either gender to increase the number of women on Boards.
Valerie has called on the Government to act to address the large increase in youth unemployment in Walsall South over the past year.
Valerie met with Usdaw to show her support against the proposed changes outlined in the Draft Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme (CICS) 2012.
On Tuesday 16 October 2012 the House of Commons Health Select Committee, of which Valerie is a member, heard evidence from the Nursing and Midwife Council (NMC) at the annual accountability hearing.
Valerie is backing Royal Mail's scheme to help those in reciept of Employment and Support Allowance, Pension Credit or incapacity benefit to purchase stamps in the run up to Christmas.
On Thursday 11 October 2012, Valerie visited Tata Steel in Darlaston. The visit followed concerns from residents of All Saints Road about a Planning Application submitted by the neighbouring Exol Lubricants.
