Valerie joined local residents of all ages at a 'Save Our Libraries' event at Pleck Library on Saturday 5th February 2011.  All around the country library users gathered to protest about cuts to library services and library closures.

Today, Valerie Vaz MP visited Walsall College where she met students and staff.  Valerie was keen to speak with students from Walsall Collge as she had presented a petition against the abolition of the Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) signed by hundreds of them to Parliament on 19th January.  This was immediately after the House of Commons debate

On Tuesday 25th January, Valerie Vaz MP attended an event in Parliament to raise awareness of the deadly threat of Carbon Monoxide Poisioning.  New research from the Carbon Monoxide – Be Alarmed! campaign shows that 68% of households in the West Midlands could be at risk of poisoning by not having an audible Carbon Monoxide

Valerie takes a keen interest in the status of science in education and funding for science at our universities, herself being a science graduate with a degree in Biochemisty.  Therefore she was pleased to meet BBC Young Scientist of the Year Tom Hearing who was at the House of Commons during filming for a BBC science
