Valerie Vaz MP has sent a letter to the President of Iran, urging the President to intervene to ensure that Sakineh Ashtiani is released.  The letter is signed by 119 MPs from all the major parties in Parliament.  Sakineh Ashtiani, who has been in prison since 2005, faces the death penalty, by stoning, as she was convicted

Valerie raised the issue of the continued detention of the Burmese Democracy Movement leader, Aung San Sui Kyi at Prime Minister's Questions on 15th September 2010, urging the Government to make continued representations to set her free.  Daw Aung San Sui Kyi remains under the house arrest she was placed in by the Burmese Military Junta.
