Remembrance Sunday Walsall Town Centre and Darlaston

The Remembrance Sunday Parade and service took place with a march past by the Staffordshire Band and Cadets and other youth organisations. The procession led by the Mayor Cllr Angela Underhill and Mr John Underhill. The service was led by Revd Mark Kinder from St Paul’s at the Crossing and addressed by the Ven Sue Weller the Archdeacon of Walsall. I laid a wreath at the War memorial. At 11.00 there was 2 minute silence.

I then left the town Centre to attend the Service and Parade at Darlaston Town Centre. We walked to the memorial led by Scouts and Guides, Brownies and Air Cadets from St Lawrence. The Service was led by Revd Liz Jones. I laid a wreath and Cllr Keith Chambers, Rose Burley and Doug James were also present and laid wreaths.

This year I used a quote from the poet Rupert Brooke-… “…there is a corner of some foreign field that is for ever England…..” on the card on the wreath.

At both Services we heard the Last post and the Reveille and the Kohima tribute. “ When you go home tell them of us and say for their tomorrow we gave our today.”

There was a large crowd gathered at both the Remembrances. It is fitting that many people are turning out to remember those fought and are still fighting for their country.
