I was a member of the Delegated Legislation Committee, which scrutinised the Draft Judicial Pensions ( Remedial Service etc) Regulations 2023 following the McCloud Judgment that made changes to pensions, which sat on the 12 June 2023 chaired by Sir Edward Leigh MP.
During the Minister’s speech, I asked “How many judges this will affect and the cost of the remedial action and if it comes out of the Ministry of Justice budget?”
The Minister replied that there were about 2,500 Judges affected and it would cost in the region of £170million which would come out of the Ministry of Justice Budget.
