On Wednesday 13 January 2021, I responded on behalf of HM Opposition to two motions which suspended sittings in Westminster Hall and debates on Private Members Bills owing to the rise in coronavirus infection rates. You can read my speech below:
I support the campaign by Cllr Maria Alexandrou, Cllr Dinah Barry and Vicki Pite to tackle the stigma around cervical cancer smear tests.
On Wednesday 6 January 2021 Parliament debated a Business of the House motion which facilitated the debate of Coronavirus lockdown regulations later that day. I asked the Leader of the House to extend virtual participation to other Committees and secondary legislation as MPs want to take part in all aspects of the House's work on a safe and equal basis. The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) updated its guidance on the 30 December 2020 to confirm that adult carers who are in receipt of Carer’s Allowance, or those who are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill will be included within priority 6 of the vaccination roll out.
Responding to the Business Statement on the day Parliament was recalled, I paid tribute to all the NHS staff fighting against Covid-19 and asked for an urgent statement on the progress of the vaccine rollout. You can read my full speech below:
