On 23 July 2019 the House paid tribute to the outgoing Serjeant at Arms, Kamal El-Hajji, who retired last week after a distinguished 12-year career in public service.
The House of Commons voted on several Lords Amendments to the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation) Bill on Thursday 18 July 2019.
At Business Questions on Thursday 18 July 2019, I called for an update for the House following the urgent question regarding Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe yesterday. As Nazanin said, she went to visit her parents and has ended up in an asylum.
On Wednesday 17 July 2019, I responded to the opening of a debate on the Gemma White QC report on bullying and harassment in Parliament. The report outlines the testimony collected in an extremely accessible way, but it does not make for pleasant reading.
I wholeheartedly support the campaign run by the Reading Agency to encourage all primary school children to take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge which launched on Saturday 13 July 2019. The Challenge helps get over 700,000 children into libraries each year.
