On Tuesday 25th January, Valerie Vaz MP attended an event in Parliament to raise awareness of the deadly threat of Carbon Monoxide Poisioning.  New research from the Carbon Monoxide – Be Alarmed! campaign shows that 68% of households in the West Midlands could be at risk of poisoning by not having an audible Carbon Monoxide alarm.

Valerie takes a keen interest in the status of science in education and funding for science at our universities, herself being a science graduate with a degree in Biochemisty.  Therefore she was pleased to meet BBC Young Scientist of the Year Tom Hearing who was at the House of Commons during filming for a BBC science programme due to be broadcast in March.

In June 2010 Valerie tabled an Early Day Motion seeking the support of other MPs for the campaign for a permament memorial to Second World War heroine Noor Inayat Khan, in Gordon Square, London.   34 MPs from all parties signed the EDM.
