Valerie raised the issue of the continued detention of the Burmese Democracy Movement leader, Aung San Sui Kyi at Prime Minister's Questions on 15th September 2010, urging the Government to make continued representations to set her free. Daw Aung San Sui Kyi remains under the house arrest she was placed in by the Burmese Military Junta.
Valerie joined the debate on health issues at the Labour Party Conference in Manchester.
The party conference season at the end of September saw the Labour Party meeting in Manchester. An exciting week began with the declaration of the Labour Leadership election result.
The vegetables and flowers on show at Darlaston Town Hall were an impressive sight when Valerie visited the exhibition put on by the local allotment associations.
Valerie visited Chamberlin and Hill's local foundry in Chuckery on the 11th September during their annual open day. Dave Morgan and Gordon Stanley showed her round the foundry, explaining the production process and introducing her to members of staff as they worked. In fact, Gordon had only recently retired after a lifetime's service in the company, and his connection with the firm is even older as his mother, father and uncles all worked for Chamberlin and Hill. Valerie was very encouraged by the positive news she heard from the Directors that the company's order book was increasing despite the recession. Also, that the company had invested heavily in reducing the environmental impact of the foundry and facilitated an education programme for employees.
