I signed an Amendment to the Financial Services and Markets Bill, which would have introduce New Clause 7 to the Bill. The Amendment was also signed by 83 of my colleagues. Unfortunately the Amendment did not pass, Ayes: 206 and Noes 271.
The Financial Services and Markets Bill establishes the post-Brexit regulatory regime for the finance sector. I voted for a number of New Clauses to the bill.
I was contacted by my constituents who raised concerns about Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) and their decision to withdraw and amend several bus services. I was concerned to see that Walsall South bus services were at risk.
On 7 December, I wrote to Rt Hon Mar Harper MP, Secretary of State for Transport to raise the issue of access to Bescot Stadium Station. My constituents, including parents with pushchairs and the Walsall FC Supporters Trust are alarmed that the only access to and from the platforms is by stairs.
HM Opposition used the Opposition Day Debate to raise the issue of NHS Workforce. Labour put forward a motion which called on the House to recognise the shortage of 9,000 hospital doctors and 50,000 nurses, and to condemn the Government’s failure to train enough NHS staff. The motion was put to the House - I voted in favour, and it passed, Ayes:226 and Noes:0.
