Valerie Vaz MP with Morgan Bowers from Walsall Countryside Services and members of the Friends of Merrions Wood celebrate the Walsall Bat Box scheme at Great Barr War Memorial Hall on Friday 17 October. # WalsallBats
On Friday 17 October 2014 Valerie attended a celebration at Great Barr War Memorial Hall to mark the end of the two-year Walsall Bat Box Scheme funded by the Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country’s Nature Improvement Area fund.
Valerie said: “I was pleased to attend the event to celebrate the end of this important nature conservation scheme. I know that the Friends of Merrions Wood, Walsall MBC Countryside Services and the Wildlife Trust have been working hard on this project for some time”.
“Even in a largely urban setting such as Walsall, there is plenty of wildlife and this must be protected. Morgan Bowers from Walsall Countryside Services told us about the different species of bats which had been found at Merrions Wood including the common pipistrelle, the soprano pipistrelle and the natterers bat.”
