On Thursday 19th January 2012, Valerie attended the launch of a report in the House of Commons organised by Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, to highlight their new report, Preventing Babies’ Deaths: What Needs To Be Done.
Valerie said:
“I am appalled to discover the scale of baby deaths in the UK. These deaths have a devastating impact on parents and their families, and I fully support Sands in their call for urgent action to prevent baby deaths in the future. The UK has one of the highest stillbirth rates compared to other high income countries. Action clearly needs to be taken.”
The report calls for urgent action to prevent babies deaths and suggest that at least 1,200 stillbirths a year in the UK could be avoided through more research, better care and greater awareness of the risks of stillbirth and newborn baby deaths.
