On Wednesday 12 February, I became a Vice-Chair of the UK Thalassaemia All-Party Parliamentary Group. Thalassaemia is an inherited blood disorder that effects a substance in the blood called haemoglobin.
People with thalassaemia produce either no or too little haemoglobin, which is used by red blood cells to carry oxygen around the body. It can make them anaemic (tired, short of breath and pale).
The UK Thalassaemia Society support families and professionals, campaign for change and fund research into the condition. You can find out more about the work they do here.
If you are a constituent who suffers with thalassaemia, please get in touch and I can raise any issues you may be facing at the next meeting of the APPG.
