As a member of the Panel of Chairs, on Monday 6 June 2016, I chaired a Westminster Hall debate on E-petition 109702 relating to restricting the use of fireworks.
The debate was led by David Mackintosh MP, a member of the Petitions Committee.
The debate focused on the balance between enjoyment of fireworks on the one hand and protecting animals from distress on the other. During the debate it was discussed whether the public are aware of their responsibilities when using fireworks and whether fireworks manufacturers and retailers are helping with advice to mitigate the impact on animals.
