On Wednesday 14th March 2012 Valerie joined more than 40 other MPs and Peers as they ran the Westminster Mile through St. James’s Park in London in support of Sport Relief 2012.
Valerie said:
“Running the Sports Relief Mile in St James’ Park was an enjoyable experience that has helped to raise awareness of the important work carried out by Sport Relief in Britain and around the world.”
“People who live in Walsall South can take part in the Sport Relief Mile in Birmingham on Sunday 25 March 2012 and join the more than one million men, women and children who are expected to take part this year.”
“The money raised will help to support people living extremely tough lives both in the UK and across the world. It is used to transform the lives of people in the UK’s most disadvantaged communities, those living with poor mental or physical health, to protect street children and to provide life-saving healthcare abroad.”
The race was started by choreographer, director and TV presenter Arlene Phillips. The Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE was also present.
