On Wednesday 12 June 2013 Valerie Vaz, Member of Parliament for Walsall South, jointly hosted the Food Standards Agency’s Summer Parliamentary Reception with the Rt Hon Stephen Dorrell MP and Dan Rogerson MP.
Valerie Vaz MP said:
“I was pleased to co-host the annual Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) Summer Parliamentary Reception. The event was attended by Lord Jeff Rooker, the Chair of the FSA, Catherine Brown, the FSA Chief Executive, and representatives from the food industry, consumer groups, local authorities and public health organisations.”
“There were speeches from the Business Minister, Michael Fallon, Health Select Committee Chair, Stephen Dorrell and FSA Chair, Jeff Rooker. Lord Rooker is stepping down from the FSA after his four year contract comes to an end.”
“This event took place during the FSA’s Food Safety Week. The FSA unveiled a ‘Kitchen Check’ campaign which aims to encourage people to perform simple checks in their own homes to see how food-safe they are. A questionnaire on the FSA website mentions useful safety tips while cooking. There are 7 stages of kitchen habits that are highlighted and after it is completed the website suggests ways of improving personal safety for people and their families.”
“I welcome the FSA’s theme in helping businesses to grow through their ‘Good Food Hygiene: Good for Business’ campaign. The FSA works with companies to ensure that they meet food hygiene standards for export, reduce inspections for well run businesses and helps start up cafes and restaurants comply with the law. UK food exports have increased by 15% between 2011 and 2012.”
