On Tuesday 22 May 2018 the shadow cabinet took part in a dementia awareness training session as part of Dementia Action Week.
Organised by Barbara Keeley, Shadow Minister for Social Care, the training covered awareness that everyone’s experience of dementia is different and how we need to focus on the emotional aspects of dementia sufferers.
The Alzheimer’s Society in 2015 reported that there are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today. Of these, approximately, 42,000 are people with young onset dementia, which affects people under the age of 65. Rates of diagnosis are improving but many people with dementia are thought to still be undiagnosed.
