On Sunday 12th June, Valerie marked Diabetes Week 2011 by taking part in a sponsored walk at Walsall Arboretum in aid of Diabetes UK. Despite the heavy rain, more than 150 people turned out to show their support for the charity.
Diabetes is one of the biggest health challenges facing the UK and there are now 270,795 people diagnosed with the condition across the West Midlands.
During Diabetes Week this year, Diabetes UK is hoping to raise £200,000 to support its Careline service in its work helping to provide physical and psychological support for people with diabetes.
Valerie said:
“I am pleased to support Diabetes UK. The walk at the Arboretum was a great success, despite the inclement weather.”
“The Diabetes UK Careline offers incredibly important support for people with diabetes and I hope that during Diabetes Week 2011, the £200,000 fundraising target is met.”
