The existing Accident and Emergency Department at Walsall Manor Hospital is not large enough for the expected growth in patient numbers, over 10,000 extra patients a year. Pressures have been added to by the closure of Stafford hospital. On Friday, 11 February 2022, I visited the new A&E department being constructed at the Manor.
I was given a tour around the £40 million development, which will include GP consultation rooms. I met with Interim CEO Professor David Loughton and was shown where patients will be triaged, bays, and the Urgent Care Centre.
Building continues at pace, with completion estimated by mid to late 2022.
